Although he has lived overseas and all over the country, Jonathan’s Southern Illinois roots run deep. Jonathan graduated as valedictorian of his class from Galatia High School in nearby Saline County before attending the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Jonathan graduated from the Naval Academy with merit, and after leaving the Navy, Jonathan returned to Southern Illinois to attend SIU School of Law in Carbondale. He graduated from the Law School with honors (cum laude) and has been practicing law in Southern Illinois continuously since his graduation in 2008.

Jonathan is licensed to practice in all state courts in the State of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Jonathan has successfully handled appeals before the First and Fifth District Courts of Appeals in Illinois, as well as the Seventh Circuit United States Court of Appeals.

Jonathan joined Murphy Hart in 2017 to continue the Hart family’s tradition of providing excellent legal services to the local community. The firm has grown tremendously and continues to proudly serve its clients in civil matters including real estate transactions, business transactions, municipal law, estate planning, probate, personal injury, worker’s compensation, and virtually all types of civil litigation.

Jonathan enjoys participating in various civic organizations and charitable endeavors, serving as Past President of the local Benton Rotary Club and volunteering for the Naval Academy’s Admissions Office as a “Blue and Gold Officer.”

Jonathan and his wife, Linda, met while practicing law together, and Linda currently serves as an Arbitrator for the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. Jonathan and Linda enjoy cooking and traveling together as much as possible and are proud to have raised their children here in Southern Illinois.
